Anglo-Saxon escapades, soft country and memorable light rays: this is the set
where Henry Cotton’s world comes to life, the way of life of British colleges and
American campuses. A dualism conjured and recreated with skilful balance
between legend and innovation. There are new fits, that bring the style closer
to tailor made design. Garments that acquire new attitude, better structures:
indestructible classics revisited with an attentive focus on market trends, and
the addition of new, unusual fabrics. Jackets and coats buy into a narrower cut
to hug the body and let it express more personality. The blue woollen coat
revisits the classical foundation of the collection together with the duffel coat,
held by leather toggles.
Shirts, too, are narrower and shorter, worn above detailed trousers. A
counterpoint given by the addition of details on washed out-looking but
perfectly pressed fabrics. Trousers change, become narrower, fitter at the
bottom.
The reference to American campus atmospheres is revisited by polo jerseys and
fleeces, embellished by embroideries. Knitwear explores the palette of fané
colours, mixed with stripes, argyles and micro-designs, enhanced and
reinforced by leather inserts.
Denim, Henry Cotton’s classic, is clean, basically blue with effects achieved by
never too-aggressive washings.
The collection twists around the compass points of four themes, four different
nuances to recognise a man in his world.
Cambridge Classic
An elegant, but sporty and destructured college style, with a prevalence of
blues, greys and cold whites with a touch of melange. Jackets are herringbone
cashmere wool; next-generation coats are woollen with Prince of Wales design,
to be matched with sober trousers. Elegance and comfort establish the main
characters of the collection.
East Coast Spirit
Again on campus, but outdoors, to do sports, or to enjoy its very activity. It is
leisure time at Harvard, where the focus is on effortless rigour, dulled out at
times of relaxation. The collection pictures it in blue, khaki and beige colours
matched with classical red to enhance it and with a touch of English green, to
confirm its vintage style. Always hand in hand with new interpretations of
elegance that blend classical cotton with more peculiar and innovative fabrics
such as nylon canvas.
Aspen Holidays
A tale where softness is the theme of a refined and exclusive mountain
landscape. The American upper class is on the snow: the pedigree of a way of
life is entrusted to unequivocal signs. Hence, classical soft colours: beiges,
creams and burnt browns blend into dusty orange and red colours like sunsets
on the snowy mountaintops. Soft layers evoking woollen knitwear and frosted
fabrics that enhance the softness and intangibility of touch. A contrasting note
only in technical fabrics of hugging outerwear: the warmest parkas and down
jackets.
The Journey Begins
Strolling around London – the cultured urban-sportswear look suggests a
polyphony of colours that gives a particularly bold effect to traditional
garments. Eccentricities that do not break ancient balances of noblesse oblige.
Hence, mud colour and octanish blue are lit up by the sudden appearance of
azures, dark violets and greens, to infuse a touch of daring to the wardrobe of a
real country gentleman. |
